Well, here we are hunkering down at home to help prevent the community spread of the virus. While this has major impacts to all of our lives, it has one silver lining...time for all of us to write! Here is an assignment to keep you going this month.

Assignment: Plot Structure & Development

In May, as a group, we talked about the plot of our family stories. What is plot? How does it help structure your family story? We then discussed the evolution of a story through a plot structure diagram  - every story has a beginning, middle, and an end. We discussed the first part of the story - the beginning, including setting, location, time and protagonist (your ancestor) and antagonist (a threat to your ancestor that forces them to change.

Using the plot structure diagram I shared in class, figure out how your story begins, establishing the setting, picking the protagonist and antagonist, and determining the conflict facing your ancestor - the "Inciting Incident" what caused them to make a change. Write a few paragraphs answering these questions.

If you didn't receive the plot structure diagram, please email Laurel at marinwritersnest@gmail.com and it will be sent your way.
