Presentation: FamilySearch - Learn New Tips
Sonja Jensen, Director of the Marin Family History Center, where the Marin County Genealogical Society has their library, will share new tips to help you get the most out of FamilySearch.org – the free counterpart of Ancestry.com. She will tell you how to update your searches easily where you last left off (thus saving you time), browse new collections productively that are available, use a wikipedia-type aid, learn about free online classes, and order materials online from the Family History Library in Salt Lake from any computer, any device that uses the internet. That means from home or your Smart phone!
She will share some of her favorite success stories gathered during her life-long interest in Family History. Just recently, Sonja found her own great grandfather’s will, containing previously unknown family members in two minutes on FamilySearch.org.
Come learn about this vital site for genealogy, present and future.
About our Meetings:
The Genealogical Society General meetings are open to the public, with no admission fee. Feel free to drop in! Bring your friends as everyone is welcome. Come early and ask your burning genealogical questions of other members before the meeting.
We meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month, with a couple of exceptions. November's meeting is held on the 3rd Wednesday, due to Thanksgiving. There is no general meeting in May, due to our Annual Picnic, nor in December, due to the holidays and our Winter Holiday Party.
Annually, several of our regularly scheduled meetings have a certain focus: April, we hold our Annual General Meeting and Elections (but there's usually a presentation also); May of each year we hold an Anniversary Celebration or Annual Picnic; and in September, we have a workshop.
