What are the system requirements to use the CDs?

1) You must have a PC. Unfortunately the CDs do not work with the MAC format.
2) The older disks have a program you can use to read them in DOS format.
3) The newer disks require DOS 3.x or higher and either Family Tree Maker or the Family Tree Maker Reader.
4) The discs donated by Palladium contain a reader program and require no other special program.

What is the History of the CD Rom Library?

In 1996, Lauren Boyd founded the Society's CD ROM Research Library. As a former employee of Broderbund Software she had many research discs in her personal library and wished there was a way to have the group be able to have the same ease of research she was enjoying from the comfort of her home. She wrote to the Legal Department of Broderbund Software and some five months later had negotiated permission for the group to share discs owned by the Society. In 1998 Lauren negotiated with Palladium Software to share their research discs with the group also. The library began with donations from Lauren's personal collection and has increased in size by the donation of discs from other members of the Society as well as Palladium Software.
