SHOEMAKER SIEVERS |
A very
pretty and quiet home wedding took place last Wednesday at the residence in
Sausalito of E. H. Shoemaker, superintendent of the Belt Line in San
Francisco. The contracting parties
were Miss Jesta SHOEMAKER, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H.
Shoemaker, and John Russell SIEVERS, a florist of San Francisco. Rev. Dr. Maxwell, the rector of Christ
Episcopal Church, performed the ceremony.
A wedding breakfast was served at the conclusion of the ceremony. The happy couple were the recipients of
many handsome gifts. Amid a shower of
rice and old mismatched shoes, Mr. and Mrs. Sievers left for a three weeks'
honeymoon in Southern California. |

SABIN BJORNSTAD |
Seldom
has a more beautiful or impressive wedding been seen in San Francisco than
that of Miss Pearl Ladd SABIN and Captain Alfred William BJORNSTAD, U.S.
Army, which was celebrated Tuesday night, at 9 o’clock, at St. Paul’s Church,
Rev. Maxwell Reilly, rector of the parish, being the officiating
clergyman. The Misses Fiedler of
Sausalito, who are related by marriage to the bride, attended the wedding. The bride and groom left Wednesday for New
York, where they will set sail for a 4 months trip to Europe. |

friends of Miss Hazel A. ANDER FUREN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Ander
Furen of Nicasio. George F. LEWIS, a
grand-nephew of Capt. Meriwether Lewis, of pathfinder fame, was issued a

Tomorrow he will wed Miss Hazel a. ANDER FUREN, who recently arrived
in Portland from Nicasio, Marin County, CA.
Mr. Lewis is a native of the Golden State, his father, Hunter Lewis,
having moved West in 1852 and locating near the townsite of Belvedere, where
George was born. The groom is an
electrical engineer, who recently arrived in Portland with the autoboat
Union. He expects to make this city
his future home. The
ceremony took place in the Protestant Episcopal Church, Rev. A.A. Morrison

BOYEN THOMPSON |
Miss
Emma Boyen gave a dinner party last Monday night at her home on Fifth
Avenue. The guests being assembled
and the dinner well under way, the hostess announced the engagement of her
sister, Miss DOROTHY BOYEN, to Rev. A.A. Roy THOMPSON. The bride-elect is well known, being
Principal of the San Anselmo School and sister to Albert Boyen of city
fame. The groom-to-be is a member of
the Presbyterian Theological Seminary at San Anselmo. The date for the wedding has not been
announced. |
|
ALLEN GRIMWOOD |
Another
wedding of interest to the residents of Marin, was that of Miss Frances
ALLEN, who became the bride of Bryant GRIMWOOD in San Francisco. The ceremony took place at 3:30 o’clock. Miss Harriet De Witt Allen was maid of
honor. The bridesmaids were Misses
Mattie Livermore, Jessie Wright, Natalie Coffin, and Emma Grimwood. Frank Findlay was best man and the ushers
were Charles Grimwood, Lucius Allen, Stopford Colby and Leonars Chenery. The happy couple will reside in San
Francisco. |

CROSBY ROGERS |
Word
was received in San Rafael, Wednesday, that the Rev. Arthur CROSBY, President
of the Mt. Tamalpais Military Academy, and Miss Susanna Badeau ROGERS of
Brooklyn, New York, were married there, Tuesday, by the Rev. Lewis Van
Benburg. Dr. Crosby left, some weeks
ago, for an Eastern visit, but no one seemed to know that Cupid had anything
to do with the trip. |

|
BENZON SOUZA |
Charles
F. Benzon, a Porto Rican, was held to answer by Justice of the Peace Pryor at
Sausalito on Monday. His bonds were
fixed in the sum of $5,000. As he was
unable to furnish this he was given into the custody of Sheriff Taylor for
safe keeping pending his trial in the Superior Court. Now the sheriff prides himself upon the
tightness of his lockup. If he has
not mottoed the keystone of the entrance with the words, "All who enter
here leave hope of escape behind," his confident smile as he clangs the
grated door shut proclaims that he thinks strongly along those lines. Monday afternoon his confidence in the old
jail was sadly and effectually shattered.
Cupid led the assault and he shot the old hinges and locks out of
commission with his innocent looking little arrows. Cupid tin canned through the old trail with as little
difficulty as could be imagined. It
all happened this way. Mary Frances SOUZA,
a seventeen year old miss of Tiburon, got it into her head that Benzon was by
all rights her husband and actuated by that belief she hunted up Judge Magee
Monday afternoon and showed him a marriage license dated April 1st,
1905, which gave herself and prisoner Benzon the right to become man and
wife. On account of the young lady's
lack of years, consent was given by the guardian Lydia Prescott. Miss Souza showed the document to his
honor and demanded that he go with her to the jail and tie the knot hard and
fast. At first his honor reared back
in his judicial chair and demanded that the groom-to-be come before him. "Benzon must be married without the
confines of the county bastille. He
must be brought here," declared his honor. "Joy! Oh,
joy!" responded the little woman.
"Great and good judge! I
could see it in your kindly face. I
knew it must be so. You will put up
the five thousand and –". Her
further speech was punctuated with a dull thud. Ten minutes later his honor revived and gracing himself, he
muttered, "Give thou—me put up.
If that isn't contempt of this court, madam, it's some kind of an
assault." Ever a
good fellow, Judge Magee soon forgot the injury done him and made the trip to
the jail. Here in the fluttering
shadows that dance in the corridors between the yellow flickering gas light
and the rays of the setting sun, he pronounced the happy but unfortunate
couple man and wife. Officer Treanor
was present as a witness. In
accounting for the delay in the marriage the couple said that they thought
the license was all that was needed to send them through life as one. Mrs.
Benzon, notwithstanding the unmentionable crime charged against her husband,
says that she believes him innocent and will stay with him to the last. |

JOHNSON KRAHENBUHL |
Supervisor
Robert W. JOHNSON of this city was quietly married in Oakland on Saturday to
Miss Jeanette KRAHENBUHL. Their
engagement was announced some months ago and the wedding in Oakland was but
the fulfillment of the happy couple's desire to avoid a large wedding. On account of the groom's business interests
here a wedding tour had to be dispensed with and they returned to this city
Monday morning. Miss Krahenbuhl is a
talented and accomplished lady who for many years has made this city her
home. Mr. Johnson, the fortunate man,
is the head of the Johnson Hardware Company of this city. At present he is a member of the Board of
Supervisors. For many years he was
treasurer of this city. His many
friends are delighted at his present good fortune and will join in wishing
him and his good wife long, happy and prosperous lives. |

GRADY LEAVY |
Colonel
Francis P. GRADY, the well-known coal dealer of this city, was married to
Miss Rose LEAVY, a prominent society belle of San Francisco, in the Church of
our Holy Redeemer, San Francisco, last Sunday by Rev. Father Moran. After the ceremony, the newly wedded
couple and their immediate friends and relatives sat down to a sumptuous
wedding breakfast at the home of the bride.
The health and congratulations to the happy couple were frequently
offered up. Mr. and
Mrs. Grady will occupy the Mackenzie cottage on E street, recently purchased
by the groom. The Journal extends to them its heartiest congratulations. |

BENZON SOUZA |
Charles
F. BENZON, who is incarcerated in the County Jail, was married in his cell to
Mary F. SOUZA, of Tiburon, on Sunday afternoon by Justice of the Peace
Magee. The accused man is a Porto
Rican, 21 years of age, and up to the time of his arrest drove a milk wagon
at Tiburon. At that place he met Mary
Souza, a Portuguese girl 17 years of age.
His relations with the girl nearly got him into trouble, it being
averted only when he had a guardian appointed for her, through whom he gained
legal consent to her marriage. The
license was issued in April, and the two lived together at Tiburon, but no
marriage ceremony was performed, although a child arrived to the couple
several months ago. |
