HARRISON SPERRY |
Secret
Marriage Surprises Friends A secret
marriage involving members of two of Marin County’s prominent families, came
to light Monday. Miss Marion HARRISON, daughter of J.W. Harrison,
a San Francisco coal broker, and Richard SPERRY, son of the late James W. Sperry, manager of the Sperry
Flour Company, are the young couple who dared parental authority, and unknown
to their friends and family became man and wife. The two have been close friends and constant companions for the
last 4 years, a fact that was not pleasing to the young lady’s family. On December 20, 1902, when both were under
age, they determined to link their lives, and the secret was maintained until
the end of May, 1903, when young Perry was obliged to reveal it to his
mother. Mrs. Sperry took matters
philosophically, gave them her blessing, but insisted that the marriage
ceremony be performed over again in her presence. The three boarded a train to Sacramento on June2nd, arrived
there 11:50 o’clock at night and were met by Rev. Charles L. Miel of St.
Paul’s Church, who remarried the couple in the drawing room of the Pullman at
12:01 o’clock. Mrs. Sperry and her
daughter-in-law summered in Canada, and then traveled to Boston, but the
husband returned to his business interests in Sausalito. With the advent of a baby daughter on September
18th, the mother-in-law tele-graphed the facts to the young wife’s
parents. The reply was to return and
be forgiven. The elder Mrs. Sperry is
now home, and the wife and child of Richard Sperry will follow in a couple of
weeks. Their home will be made
temporarily with the Harrisons. |

Herzog, Miss Gertrude Joseph and Miss Adele Lobree, while Isadore Meyer will
act as best man. The happy couple
will leave on an extended wedding trip through Southern California, Arizona,
New Mexico and Colorado, and upon their return will reside in the handsome
new home which Mr. Herzog has erected in San Rafael. |

Sarah J. ENNIS The Bride of Joseph ATKINSON Well
Known Petaluman’s Journey to San Rafael and Spring a Surprise on Their Many
Local Friends Petaluma
Argus – Two
prominent Petaluma people made a quiet trip to San Rafael on Monday morning
and were quietly wedded. The news of
their marriage will come as a big surprise to the greater number of their
friends although many of their nearer friends were aware that the nuptials
would soon occur. Only last week the
bride stated emphatically that there was not a particle of truth in the
report of the approaching marriage.
Mrs. Sarah J. ENNIS, widow
of the late F.F. Ennis, was the bride, and Joseph ATKINSON of Vallejo township, the happy groom. The wedding took place at 2 p.m. at the
office of Justice of the Peace Magee, who officiated. |
