Presentation:  What was it like aboard a Sailing Vessel at sea in 1630?

The subject is the settlement of Maine and Boston, and all the events that led up to May, 1630. It's historical fiction.  What was the special mission of this particular voyage? Why did the Lyon sail separately from Winthrop’s fleet? What was it like traveling in a hundred-foot ship with eighty passengers and twenty crew for nine weeks?  A work of historical fiction, this book is about real people, who sailed on a real voyage. They tell us the events that led up to the settling of Maine and Massachusetts. Some stories should never be forgotten.

Presented by Mary Ames Mitchell

Mary Ames Mitchell has been a graphic designer for over twenty years and more recently has become a writer. She has two grown children and became interested in genealogy when her son had to create a family tree for his American history class. She has now written three books. The first was an historical narrative about her father's descent to homelessness. The second was about searching for the grave of her English grandmother in England. And her third, which was just recently published, is a novel about one of the ships that sailed to Salem before Winthrop's Fleet, filled mostly with puritans who would settle Maine and Massachusetts.

Mary is the governor of the Redwood Empire Colony of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
